The URWERK UR-110 “Torpedo” is a satellite-hours wristwatch produced by URWERK from 2011 to 2015, distinguished by displaying the time along the right side of the case. Winner of the 2011 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève prize for Best Design Watch, it was produced in a series of small limited editions and is today among the most collected URWERK references. The story
The UR-110 succeeded the UR-103, the watch that established URWERK's wandering-hour identity, and rethought it around a single idea: time you can read without turning your wrist. Three-hour satellites travel down a vertical minute track on the right side of the case, each carrying an arrow-shaped pointer. Those arrows earned the watch its nickname, the Torpedo.
The architecture behind that display works on three levels. A central axis runs the full height of the movement for stability. Planetary gears keep the three satellites in parallel formation as they orbit. And each of the three counter-rotating hour modules carries its own hour satellite, minute pointer and counterweight. Alongside the time, a Control Board on the dial shows a day/night indicator, small seconds, and URWERK's signature Oil Change indicator, which tracks when the watch is due for service.
On the case back, twin air turbines regulate the automatic winding: spinning against air resistance, they slow the rotor during vigorous activity to protect the mechanism, one of URWERK's defining technical signatures.

The EastWood closed the production run in 2015 with something nobody expected from URWERK: fair-trade precious wood and bespoke tweed. Six years later, a single Bakelite-bezelled piece marked the reference's tenth anniversary and definitive goodbye.
The movement: calibre UR 9.01
Self-winding, with URWERK's unidirectional rotor regulated by the twin turbines. 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), 46 jewels, single barrel, 39-hour power reserve. Finishing includes matting, circular graining and diamond-cut edges. The satellite complication itself, hour and minute modules on planetary gears, is machined and assembled in-house in Geneva.
Buying a pre-owned
All UR-110 editions from new are sold out; examples are available exclusively on the pre-owned market.
