URWERK UR-110 TTH

“Tantalum Hull” Limited Edition of 55 Pieces

Overview

The URWERK UR-110 TTH “Tantalum Hull” introduces a more compact and dense interpretation of the UR-110 platform. Produced in a limited series of 55 pieces, this reference is defined by its use of tantalum, a material rarely encountered in watchmaking.

Heavier and more resistant than conventional case metals, tantalum alters both the physical presence and the visual character of the watch. Its natural tone, a deep grey with subtle blue and violet reflections, reinforces the architectural nature of the UR-110 case.

Now discontinued, the TTH remains one of the most distinctive and technically focused versions within the UR-110 series.

Case and Material

The case combines tantalum and titanium, creating a balance between density and structural integrity.

Tantalum is known for its resistance to corrosion and its difficulty to machine. These properties contribute to the character of the watch, both in its construction and in the way it interacts with light.

The bezel is significantly thicker than earlier executions, secured by visible screws and paired with an upgraded sapphire crystal. The result is a case that feels more solid and contained, with a clear emphasis on durability.

Torpedo Satellite Display

Time is displayed through URWERK’s signature satellite complication, configured for the UR-110.

Three hour satellites travel along a vertically arced minute track positioned on the right side of the case. Each satellite carries an arrow shaped indicator, maintaining alignment through a planetary gearing system.

The display is continuous and directional, with each satellite advancing in sequence across the 0 to 60 minute scale.

Mechanical Architecture

The satellite system is structured across multiple layers:

• Central carousel providing stability
• Planetary gearing maintaining alignment
Each module counter-rotates to offset the carousel’s movement

These components operate simultaneously, creating a controlled and consistent flow of time.

Dial Indications

Additional indications are integrated within the dial:

• Small seconds
• Day and night indicator
• Oil change service indicator

Each function is positioned to support the primary display without interrupting its movement.

Twin Turbine Regulation

On the case-back, the UR-110 features twin turbines regulating the automatic winding system.

Using air resistance, the turbines control rotor speed and reduce mechanical stress during wear. This contributes to the long term stability of the movement.

Position in the Collection

The UR-110 received the GPHG Best Design Watch Prize in 2011, establishing it as one of URWERK’s defining models.

The TTH version extends this foundation through material and construction, offering a more concentrated and tactile interpretation of the design.

Felix Baumgartner, co-founder and master watchmaker of URWERK: “Tantalum comes from the myth of Tantalus, a figure associated with eternal temptation. That name fits. We were drawn to the material’s character—its strength, its colour, and its resistance. It felt right for the UR-110’s final evolution.”

Martin Frei, co-founder and chief designer of URWERK: “We’re always curious to see how new materials transform our work. Tantalum gave the UR-110 a darker, heavier aesthetic we hadn’t seen before. It changed the visual language of the watch. I called it the Tantalum Hull—like the armoured skin of a spacecraft.”
