UR-CC1 King Cobra: Going Linear

Launched in 2009, the UR-CC1 “King Cobra” stands as one of URWERK’s boldest and most technically ambitious creations. Inspired by a forgotten 1958 Patek Philippe prototype by watchmaking legend Louis Cottier, the King Cobra reimagined linear time display for the modern era. With retrograde minutes and seconds advancing across horizontal and vertical scales and a jumping digital hour window, the King Cobra offered a completely new way to experience time more cinematic than traditional, more sculptural than functional.

The sleek, elongated case, available in grey gold and black AlTiN-coated titanium, gave the watch its “King Cobra” nickname, with its curves evoking a coiled serpent ready to strike. Limited to just 50 pieces, this watch fused heritage inspiration with futuristic engineering, requiring years of development to perfect its unique mechanism. Though rare, the King Cobra made a lasting impact on independent watchmaking and remains a cult favorite among collectors for its uncompromising design and daring concept.
