Overview
The URWERK UR-110 Torpedo AlTiN stands as one of the most recognisable executions of the UR-110 platform. Originally released in 2012 in a limited series of 55 pieces, it introduced a darker, more technical expression of the model.
The nickname “Torpedo” derives from the arrow shaped hour satellites, reinforcing the directional flow of time across the display.
Now discontinued, the UR-110 has gained renewed attention among collectors. The AlTiN version remains one of the most sought after references within the series.
Case and Material
The case combines titanium with steel, treated with Aluminium Titanium Nitride.
This coating is developed for industrial applications, offering:
• high resistance to wear and abrasion
• strong protection against oxidation
• a uniform matte black surface
Beyond its technical properties, the finish enhances the geometry of the UR-110 case, emphasising its angular and asymmetrical form.
Torpedo Satellite Display
Time is displayed through a reworked satellite system unique to the UR-110.
Three hour satellites travel along a vertically arced minute track positioned on the right side of the case. Each satellite carries an arrow shaped indicator, moving in a controlled sequence from 0 to 60 minutes.
A planetary gearing system maintains alignment as the satellites rotate, ensuring a consistent and precise indication as each takes its turn.
Dial Indications
Integrated within the dial architecture are additional displays:
• small seconds
• day and night indicator
• oil change service indicator
These functions remain secondary to the satellite display, providing information without interrupting the visual flow.
Twin Turbine Regulation
On the caseback, the UR-110 features twin air turbines regulating the automatic winding system.
Visible through sapphire apertures, the turbines introduce resistance to control rotor speed. This reduces mechanical stress during periods of high activity and contributes to long term stability.
Position in the Collection
The UR-110 was later succeeded by the UR-120, marking the end of its production.
Since its discontinuation, the model has re-emerged as a key reference within URWERK’s history, appreciated for its distinct display and architectural case design.
