Steel Ribbed Satellite Time Award Winning Design
Overview
The URWERK UR-110 marked a defining moment for the brand. In 2011 the watch received the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève award for Best Design Watch, recognition of a radically different approach to time display and case architecture.
In 2013 URWERK introduced a more tactile interpretation, the UR-110 ST Steel Ribbed. The case is treated with AlTiN coated steel and fitted with a distinctive ribbed bezel. The sculpted steel shield protects the satellite display beneath while reinforcing the mechanical character of the watch.
The result is a piece that feels closer to industrial design and aerospace engineering than traditional watchmaking.
Satellite Torpedo Time Display
The UR-110 presents time using one of URWERK’s most distinctive satellite complications.
Three hour satellites travel along a vertically arced minute track, progressing from 0 to 60 minutes in a downward motion. Each satellite carries an arrow shaped hour indicator known as a torpedo.
A sophisticated planetary gearing system keeps the satellites aligned in perfect parallel formation as they rotate through the display. As each torpedo reaches the minute scale it takes its turn indicating the current time.
The architecture creates a kinetic display where time appears to glide across the dial.
Dial Architecture
The dial of the UR-110 is constructed as a layered three dimensional structure.
Within the satellite display are additional indications including:
• small seconds
• day and night indicator
• oil change service indicator
These displays reinforce URWERK’s philosophy that a watch should communicate not only the time but also the health and behaviour of the movement.
Twin Turbine Winding Regulation
Turning the watch over reveals another distinctive URWERK innovation.
The case-back houses twin micro turbines which regulate the winding behaviour of the automatic rotor. The turbines use air resistance to slow the rotor during periods of high activity, helping protect the winding mechanism and maintain mechanical stability.
This system became one of the signature technical features of URWERK watches.

“For the UR-110 ST we received the GPHG Design award, which was a wonderful surprise because the watch has such unusual geometry. It is asymmetrical in every possible way, which of course is exactly how I like it.
Most of the visual action happens at the edge of the shield shaped case opening. I also had to design a special crown protector lid because the crown sits quite deep within the case. The protector gives the small crown the strong URWERK identity.”
The original UR-110 appeared in steel and titanium. Frei often compared its aesthetic to the industrial character of the Iron Man Mark II prototype suit. Actor Robert Downey Jr later chose to wear a UR-110 during his appearance in the Marvel film Spider Man.

Delivery Options
Watches will be shipped using the best courier service based on your location. Please note, deliveries are not made on Bank Holidays or Sundays. Please allow additional time, if ordering on or near public holidays or weekends. Delivery will commence once payment is secured depending on payment type.

Insurance
