Overview
The URWERK UR-110 PT presents one of the most refined interpretations of the UR-110 platform. Introduced in January 2013 and limited to 20 pieces, this configuration pairs the architectural complexity of the UR-110 with the restrained presence of a platinum bezel.
The result is a more composed expression of the design. The platinum shield introduces clarity and balance, softening the aggressive asymmetry of the case while preserving its distinctive form.
Within the UR-110 collection, the PT stands apart for its focus on material and finishing, offering a quieter and more considered interpretation of one of URWERK’s most recognisable watches.
Case and Finishing
The platinum bezel defines the character of the UR-110 PT.
Its satin finish contrasts with the darker titanium body, creating a subtle interplay between light and shadow. The finishing throughout the watch reflects URWERK’s attention to detail:
• satin finished platinum bezel
• satin polished screws
• sand blasted titanium case and crown protector
• circular grained minute track
• matte hour satellites with diamond cut bevels
The overall aesthetic is restrained, with black set against natural metal tones. This creates a balanced composition that enhances the three dimensional architecture of the display while introducing a more classical character.
Satellite Torpedo Time Display
The UR-110 displays time using a highly engineered satellite system.
Three rotating hour satellites travel along a vertically arced minute track, progressing from 0 to 60 minutes in a downward motion. Each satellite carries an arrow shaped indicator, often described as a torpedo.
This system is built on a layered mechanical architecture:
• a central carousel providing stability
• planetary gearing maintaining parallel alignment of the satellites
• three counter rotating hour modules, each composed of an hour satellite, minute indicator, and counterbalance
These elements work together continuously, creating a display that appears fluid while remaining mechanically complex beneath the surface.
Dial Indications
The dial integrates additional information within its layered construction:
• small seconds
• day and night indicator
• oil change service indicator
These functions are presented discreetly, allowing the satellite display to remain the focal point while providing insight into the behaviour of the movement.
Twin Turbine Winding System
Turning the watch over reveals one of URWERK’s signature technical features.
The case-back incorporates twin turbine windows which regulate the winding rate of the automatic rotor. Using air resistance, the turbines help control the speed of the rotor, reducing stress on the movement during periods of high activity.
This system reinforces URWERK’s approach to mechanical innovation, where performance and durability are considered alongside design.
Recognition
The UR-110 platform received the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève award for Best Design Watch in 2011, recognising its unconventional approach to time display and case architecture.
The UR-110 PT builds on this foundation with a more refined execution focused on material and finishing.
