Overview

The URWERK UR-103.08 TiAlN presents one of the most unusual material executions within the UR-103 lineage. First released in 2007, this reference introduced a coating rarely seen in watchmaking, resulting in a surface that shifts between deep purple and brown tones depending on the light.

This example is presented in as new condition, fully serviced and part of the URWERK Pre-Owned collection.

The UR-103 remains a defining model in the history of the brand, establishing the satellite time display as a signature of URWERK. The 103.08 extends this identity through material innovation, offering a different interpretation of the case without altering its fundamental architecture.

Case and Material

The case is treated with Titanium Aluminium Nitride, known as TiAlN.

This coating is widely used in industrial tooling for its durability and resistance. Applied in a layer measuring only a few microns, it significantly enhances the surface properties of the metal beneath.

Key characteristics include:

• high resistance to scratches and wear
• strong protection against oxidation and corrosion
• exceptional hardness, approaching that of sapphire

The distinctive colour is not applied as a finish, but emerges from the composition of titanium and aluminium within the coating. The result is a surface that changes appearance with light, moving between dark violet and copper tones.

Satellite Time Display

At the centre of the UR-103.08 is URWERK’s original revolving satellite complication.

Four hour satellites rotate across the dial, travelling along the minute arc to indicate the current time. As each satellite completes its path, it returns to the carousel to continue its orbit.

The display combines analogue movement with digital indication, creating a system that remains both intuitive and mechanically expressive.

Case Architecture

The UR-103 case is defined by its asymmetrical form and three dimensional construction.

The Targa style sapphire crystal follows the curvature of the case, while the coated surface enhances the sculptural lines of the design. In darker tones, the geometry becomes more pronounced, revealing the balance between form and function.

This reference represents one of the earliest explorations of darker finishes within URWERK, a direction that would later become central to the brand’s identity.

The URWERK Control Board

Turning the watch over reveals the URWERK Control Board, a key feature of the UR-103 series.

The case-back includes:

• power reserve indicator
• 15 minute counter and seconds display for precise time setting
• fine tuning screw for rate adjustment

This system allows the wearer to monitor and adjust the performance of the movement, reinforcing URWERK’s approach to mechanical interaction.

Pre-Owned

Each watch is fully serviced and refurbished by URWERK watchmakers, supplied with:
