Overview

The URWERK UR-103.05 Platinum extends the architecture of the UR-103 into a more open and refined form. Limited to 50 pieces, this execution introduces a lighter visual structure while retaining the mechanical intensity that defines the 103 series.

The case is crafted in platinum, a material chosen not only for its weight and presence, but for the way it interacts with light across the complex surfaces of the watch. Combined with the Targa style sapphire crystal and lateral openings, the UR-103.05 reveals more of its internal architecture than earlier versions.

The result is a watch that feels both exposed and controlled, where structure and movement exist in constant dialogue.

Case and Architecture

The UR-103.05 introduces a more open construction through three sapphire windows.

A central Targa crystal is complemented by two elliptical side apertures, allowing light to enter the case and reveal the orbiting satellite system from multiple angles. This approach visually reduces the mass of the platinum case while enhancing the sense of depth.

The perimeter of the crystal is defined by a palladium outline, tracing the geometry of the case and emphasising its sculptural form. Along the minute track, an arc of natural metal perlage reinforces the connection to other platinum executions within the URWERK collection.

At the heart of the UR-103.05 is URWERK’s signature satellite hour complication.

Four hour satellites rotate across the dial, each travelling along the minute arc to indicate the current time. The satellites and orbital cross are executed in black PVD coated grade 2 titanium, creating contrast against the brightness of the platinum case.

The display remains fluid and mechanical, with each satellite completing its journey before returning to the carousel to continue its orbit.

Materials and Finishing

Working with platinum introduces a level of complexity that defines the character of this watch.

The production of a single UR-103.05 platinum case requires:

• several weeks of CNC programming and tool preparation

• multiple case position changes during machining

• specialised tooling with limited production cycles

• extended finishing and polishing due to the density of platinum

The result is a case with a distinct tactile quality and visual depth, where finishing plays a central role in the overall expression of the watch.

Control Board

Turning the watch over reveals the URWERK Control Board, executed in grade 5 titanium.

This system provides additional information and interaction with the movement, including:

• power reserve indicator

• running seconds

• 15 minute counter for precise time setting

• fine tuning screw for rate adjustment

The Control Board reflects URWERK’s philosophy of making the mechanical behaviour of the watch visible and adjustable.

Light and Legibility

The UR-103.05 uses bright yellow SuperLuminova to enhance legibility.

In daylight the luminous material provides strong contrast against the darker satellite elements. In low light conditions it emits a cool blue glow, recalling the instrumentation of a cockpit and reinforcing the technical identity of the watch.
